Opioid Poisoning Response Training for Individuals

SJA training programs for individuals are built to educate everyday Canadians on opioid awareness and response

Opioid poisonings are on the rise across Canada. With proper training, you can be ready to save someone’s life. St. John Ambulance (SJA) has free in-person and self-paced online training programs on opioid awareness and response.

  • How to identify drug stigmatization and harm reduction
  • How to recognize opioids and their impact on the body
  • How to identify and respond to an opioid poisoning emergency
  • How to develop a self-care plan

SJA has a variety of Opioid Poisoning Response Training (OPRT) course formats for you to choose from

E-Learning Course

This online course is self-led and self-paced, so you can learn at your preferred pace. Please note that no naloxone kits will be provided upon completion of this course.

Virtual, Facilitator-Led Course

This virtual, facilitator-led course allows you to learn from one of SJA’s certified OPRT facilitators who will take you through the course material in an online classroom. The course is approximately 120 minutes. Participants who complete the course will receive a free nasal naloxone kit.

In-Person Course at Your Nearest SJA Council

You have the option to take OPRT at any of our SJA branches across Canada, which allows you to learn material in a hands-on environment from one of SJA’s certified facilitators. Participants who complete the course will receive a free nasal naloxone kit. You can register for an in-person OPRT course near you by registering here.

I see myself ready to assist our residents and community members who may be suffering from opioid poisoning and then we have a reduced case of death resulting from overdose.
